StudiVZ was the go-to social networking platform for students in Europe. As an abbreviation of Studentenverzeichnis, it means students' directory, and it set the tone for student friendships across Europe. With reportedly over 15 million members in September 2009, it was one of the biggest social networks in Europe with users mostly from Germany, Switzerland and Austria. However since late 2009, traffic to the site slowly began to drop and eventually led up to its declaration of insolvency in 2017. In 2020 Poolworks announced the shutdown of StudiVZ officially coming into effect on March 2022; where the website was permanently shut down thus ending its long reign as Europe's premier student network.
