Alicia Keys
Alicia Keys or Alicia Augello Cook was born on 25th January 1981 in the neighborhood of Manhattan in the New York City. Alicia’s mother Teresa Augello was a part time actress while her father Craig Cook was a flight attendant. Alicia began playing piano at a very young age of seven and she learned classical music composed by Mozart and Beethoven.
Alicia Keys passed her graduation from the Professional Performing School of Arts in Manhattan at the age of sixteen. Alicia Keys decided to drop the idea of studies and pursue her musical career and so she signed a sample agreement with Jermaine Dupri. She also recorded and co-wrote a song that entitled “Dah Dee Dah” that appeared on the soundtracks of “Men in Black” the 1997 blockbuster. This song was Alicia Keys initial professional recording, but was not released as the single.
Alicia Keys then met Clive Davis who went on to sign her for the Arista Records. She even recorded some of the songs such as Rear View Mirror and Rock wit U that featured on the soundtracks of Shaft and Dr Dolittle 2 respectively to the newly formed Davis J Records. Alicia Keys released Songs in A Mirror which is her debut album in the year 2001.
